After
landing said unpaid internship at a St. Louis ad agency and after
realizing I wouldn’t be running around the place like a chicken
with my head cut off stamping ®’s on everything in sight,
I sent a simple self-promotion piece on a plain white sheet of paper
to a handful of agencies around the country with the following headline
neatly inscribed and centered at the top:
“ If you think good
writers are hard to come by today,
call 772-1819 and one will come by tomorrow.”
I knew I’d found my true calling when I heard from Fallon, The
Martin Agency, Chiat Day and Y&R to name just a few, which I’m
pretty sure never happened to one Jacques Cousteau.
Since my first job at DMB&B St. Louis, I’ve been fortunate
enough to have the opportunity to work on some of the world’s
biggest brands, at and for some of the best agencies in the country,
both on staff and as a freelancer. Along the way helping them win
nearly $200 million in new business, not to mention hundreds of local,
regional,
national and international awards.
These days, when I’m not on the clock, I’m spending
time with my beautiful wife and our twin son and daughter, playing
video
games, fishing, eating sushi and promoting The
Gravy Factory official store of the coolest gamer and geek t-shirts on the planet.
